If you regularly use the Podcasts app for iPhone or iPad to keep up with your favorite episodes and playlists, you may occasionally come across a podcast series that you think someone you know may be interested in. Instead of sending them a link to iTunes or just giving them a title to look up, the Podcasts app actually gives you the option to share them directly without ever leaving the app.
Here's how:
- Launch the Podcasts app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Find the podcasts title you'd like to share under the My Podcasts section and tap on its name.
- Tap on the Share button in the upper right hand corner.
- Now choose an option to share. Your options will be email, message, Twitter, or Facebook. Tap on the one you'd like and you'll automatically be taken to a message or post auto-filled for you.

New IPOs Hitting the Tech Sector; Microsoft and Intel Struggling

The most important news to come will be in two technology stocks: Intel Corporation (NASDAQ/INTC) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ/MSFT). What these two companies report in their earnings results will be very telling when it comes to the health of the personal computer (PC) market.
Both Intel and Microsoft are not expensively priced on the stock market at all. Intel, in particular, has a very fair valuation, and its dividend yield is well over four percent.
Of course, the key issue for both of these companies is growth. With the prevalence of tablets and all kinds of PC-derivative products, it is tough to imagine both these companies reporting strong growth in earnings.
Consensus earnings estimates for Microsoft are quite a bit stronger than they are for Intel.
With the stock market at its highs, all kinds of new initial public offerings (IPOs) have hit the market, and some are very interesting companies.
One small, but growing technology company out of Irwin, PA is The ExOne Company (NASDAQ/XONE), which is in the business of manufacturing three-dimensional (3D) printing machines. These machines help designers and engineers to produce industrial prototypes and production parts. The company sells to the aerospace, automotive, and heavy equipment markets.
ExOne is a company that?s still in its early stages. In its latest earnings report, 2012 fourth-quarter revenues grew to $12.7 million, up a substantial $10.0 million over the fourth quarter of 2011.
The company turned profitable in the latest quarter, with earnings of $0.9 million, up from a net loss of $2.8 million in the comparable quarter.
For 2012, total revenues were $28.7 million, representing growth of 88% over 2011. The company incurred a net loss of $10.2 million in 2012, compared to a net loss of $8.0 million in 2011.
The timing on the stock market could not have been more perfect for all the new IPOs. There have been several new listings by small technology companies, and some new restaurant chains are really doing well. (See ?The Stocks Making a Comeback in the Last Two Earnings Seasons.?)
Stock market strength is likely to be very kind to Wall Street in the first quarter. There is a slew of earnings reports from Wall Street this week.
The stock market has so much potential this year. Even if earnings results in the first quarter are only mediocre, any further economic recovery will immediately translate right to the bottom line.
Still, it?s tough to be a buyer in a stock market at its all-time record high. I continue to favor blue chips, but last week?s trading action saw a real resurgence in the NASDAQ Composite index. This was a very positive development and a necessary one if the stock market is going to continue its rally.
There is pent-up demand in a number of industries. And there is more pent-up demand from institutional investors to be buyers in the stock market. This market can still tick higher, even if it?s through disappointing earnings results.

It started with a cough: Deadly China bird flu outbreak raises fears of pandemic

BEIJING -- It began in late February when an 87-year-old man started coughing up phlegm. A high fever followed, he struggled to breathe and was dead just 13 days later.
His death in Shanghai, China, was one of 13 fatalities out of 41 known cases to date of a new form of bird flu that experts warn may pose a "serious human health risk."
On Saturday, China's center for disease control announced the first case in Beijing, and outside of eastern China. The seven-year-old girl, whose parents work in the live poultry trade, was stable in a hospital in the capital, media reports said.
Around the world, scientists are now beginning to examine samples of the virus with a significant question in mind: Could this strain of the disease cause a global pandemic?
This international network of scientists keeps constant watch for good reason.
In 1918 and 1919, a flu pandemic killed between 20 million and 40 million people, more than the total death toll of World War I, more in a year than the Black Death of 1347 to 1351. More recently, an H1N1 swine flu pandemic?was blamed for more than 284,500 human deaths worldwide between April 2009 and August 2010.
So far, the signs are that this is a localized outbreak. The number of cases is low and the virus -- an H7N9 strain -- does not appear to be capable of jumping from one person to another.
But each case represents a chance for the virus to mutate into one that is highly infectious in humans. And it is an unusual strain -- normally avian diseases make birds sick first, giving an early warning sign, but this one does not.
More than 1,000 dead ducks have been fished out of a river Sichuan, China. The discovery comes as the country deals with anger over the dumping of over 16,000 pigs elsewhere in China. NBCNews.com's Dara Brown reports.
Scientists have established it is from an "avian reservoir" but still don't know the precise source. Chinese officials have dismissed suggestions of a connection with the large number of dead pigs and other animals found recently in rivers.
Many in China are understandably worried, with some deciding to avoid eating chicken, even though it poses no threat if properly cooked.
KFC?s parent company Yum reported on Wednesday that sales in its Chinese restaurants had dropped by 13 percent in March, saying ?publicity associated with avian flu in China has had a significant, negative impact.?
Even Jiangsu Zoo, just north of Shanghai, reportedly stopped feeding chicken to animals such as lions and tigers and started giving them a traditional medicinal herb called ban lan gen.
Xie Li, an accountant in Shanghai, admitted she was ?kind of nervous.?
?Now, we only eat vegetables," she said. "My daughter's school is measuring students' temperatures. We were told that we should eat less eggs or not touch eggs because they might have some excrement from chickens."
But others in the city of 23 million people were more sanguine.
A farm in China has admitted to dumping more than 6,000 pigs corpses into Shanghai's Huangpu River, according to China's official Xinhua news agency. NBCNews.com's Alex Witt reports.
Yan Zhanlin, a 40-year-old businessman, said he was ?not scared, because there are not many cases, and the number of deaths is not high? and the virus had not yet spread between people.
?Today, I went to a train station, and I only saw few people wearing masks,? he said.
But even he said he had stopped eating ?poultry, pork and other meat.?
Tang, a company manager in his late 20s, who declined to give his full name, was also relatively unconcerned.
?I do not fear [the virus] at all. It is just a kind of flu, and will pass quickly,? he said. Avoiding poultry was ?not too bad, because it forces us to eat vegetables and fish, which are nutritious,? he added.
'Watching very carefully'
Perhaps in a sign of the country's nervousness, People's Liberation Army Colonel Dai Xu claimed the U.S. was behind the outbreak, saying the U.S. had used "bio-psychological weapons" to cause the deadly 2003 Sars outbreak and the current flu one, The South China Morning Post reported.
Such allegations aside, this apparently local problem is being treated seriously on a global scale.
Samples of the virus ? or non-infectious nucleic acid from it ? are being sent to scientists in up to 140 national influenza centers recognized by the World Health Organization, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Work has already started in the U.S. to make a vaccine against the new strain -- just in case.
Scientist John McCauley, of the U.K.?s National Institute for Medical Research, received his consignment on Thursday.
?We?re watching very carefully the events there [in China] because we are aware although there?s no human-to-human transmission, these are unusual infections people have been getting from an avian reservoir,? he said.
?China will need to identify the source and hopefully be able to control the cross-species transmission,? he said. ?We?re watching very carefully to see how it does.?
The outbreak of a new strain of bird flu has now infected at least 18 people, and killed six in China. NBC's Robert Bazell reports.
?In the meantime, the national influenza centers around the world are developing their ability to detect this newly emerging virus? and also working on vaccines, McCauley said.
Experts needed to find out how vaccines would perform ?in case this virus becomes pandemic,? he said.
Coincidentally, John Oxford, a professor of virology and an expert on the 1918 flu pandemic, was in Shanghai about eight weeks ago -- roughly the same time that the elderly man first fell ill ? for a meeting about hygiene, important in the fight against viruses such as flu.
He said the situation in China was ?getting a little more worrying.?
?I don?t like the sound of it. Every day I open up the reports and find out someone else has died,? he said. ?I just don?t like to see the figures going up day after day.?
?So far there?s no human-to-human transmission. What?s tomorrow going to bring, what?s the next day going to bring? You don?t know and I don?t know,? he added.
But Oxford, of the U.K's Queen Mary, University of London, stressed there was ?no need for anyone to start flapping at the moment.?
?I don?t think we should start thinking of 1918 scenarios, definitely not,? he said.

A group of Chinese scientists, writing in the New England Journal of Medicine, also warned that the ?pandemic potential of these novel avian-origin viruses should not be underestimated.?
?Severe avian influenza A (H7N9) infections, characterized by high fever and severe respiratory symptoms, may pose a serious human health risk,? it added. ?We are concerned by the sudden emergence of these infections and the potential threat to the human population.?
However ? mirroring the split on the streets of Shanghai ? other experts were less worried.
Adolfo Garcia-Sastre, a microbiology professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and principal investigator for the Center for Research on Influenza Pathogenesis, said while it was ?too early to be able to conclude anything ?? the probabilities are very low? that a global pandemic is looming.
He was comforted by the lack of a surge in the numbers of people with the disease.
?It?s not that it?s increasing by ten times per week, I think right now the number of cases is what you would have expected from the original numbers,? he said.
?Right now there are no major indications to become highly alarmed.?

EA shuttering SimCity Social, The Sims Social and Pet Society on June 14th
For a while, it looked like EA was ready to stake a large part of its gaming future on social networking, introducing Facebook-oriented ports like SimCity Social and The Sims Social as well as more original titles. As it turns out, the game publisher isn't quite ready to be a social butterfly: following an earlier cull that focused heavily on sports-themed web games, EA is axing SimCity Social, The Sims Social and Pet Society on June 14th. There's no mystery to the shutdown, as EA explains that strong initial demand rapidly tapered off -- name recognition got the company's foot in the door, but didn't keep it there. Fortunately, gamers who feel jilted will at least get an incentive to switch to more popular games from EA's PopCap studio, though the company hasn't provided any additional details there except to say an offer is coming soon. We're all in favor of shifting resources to where they'll be truly appreciated, although we can't help but feel sorry for SimCity fans that have just been burned twice in a row.

Cat Zingano gets TKO win, ?TUF? coaching gig and title fight against Ronda Rousey
UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey now knows who she will face in her next bout. In a fight with huge implications, Cat Zingano won by TKO over Miesha Tate at 2:55 of the third round at "The Ultimate Fighter" finale on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Zingano found herself in trouble early in the fight as she was caught in several of Tate's submission attempts in what proved to be a thrilling bout. Both a kneebar and an armbar appeared to be tight, but Zingano worked out of every attempt Tate tried. In the third round, the fight turned for Zingano as she hit Tate with several, well-timed knees from the clinch. Zingano finally finished the bout with an elbow.
Now, Zingano, the first mother to ever fight in the UFC, will coach against Rousey on the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter." Their teams will face off on the reality show that will air on the soon-to-be launched Fox Sports 1, and then Zingano and Rousey will fight for the UFC women's bantamweight belt.

Zingano and Rousey are already looking forward to facing each other.
"It's going to come down to heart, to technique, to speed. It's going to be a battle. You're going to watch," Zingano said after the bout.
Rousey admitted the fight wasn't exactly what she expected, but she already learned something about her future opponent.
"Cat really showed that she was able to perform under pressure. I'm going to be ready for that," Rousey said.
Though Rousey has only been a professional MMA fighter for two years, she zoomed to the top of the women's MMA world since switching to fighting after winning an Olympic bronze medal in judo. She has seven straight fights by first-round, armbar wins, including her defeat of Liz Carmouche in her UFC debut in February.

Zingano is also undefeated as a professional. Like Rousey, she is 7-0, but has finished opponents through knockouts and submissions. With a wrestling and jiu-jitsu background, she is a more well-rounded fighter than many of Rousey's previous opponents. Zingano showed her power against Tate, so it will be interesting to see if she will be able to muster the same kind of power against Rousey.
Women fighting in the UFC is still new, as the Tate-Zingano bout was just the second female bout in UFC history. The women's bantamweight division is quickly growing, though; it has added several fighters since Rousey was originally signed as the first women in the UFC. Adding TUF castmembers to the mix will help it the division develop depth even faster.

Facebook Home now (unofficially) available for almost any Android device
Despite an early leak on Monday, once again the internet lit-up with chatter about the release of Facebook Home in the Google Play store. All good and well if you find yourself in the right place with the right phone, but what about everyone else? Unsurprisingly, the digital door staff (read, Facebook's hardware restrictions) have already been dispatched, meaning almost any Android device can download and install the social software. We can thank Paul O'Brien at MoDaCo for doing the honors, and for those interested, the process is pretty simple. If your issue is location (rather than device) you'll need the latest version of Facebook's regular and Messenger apps first. Once you do, just download the APK, activate it, and you're good. If hardware is the barrier, then you'll need to get the patched versions of Facebook, Messenger and Home (via the source). Early reports suggest that most features operate just fine, but that sending SMS from Messenger can sometimes stop working. If that's a deal-breaker, you'll have to keep an eye out for updates. If it's not, then tap the source up for the full lowdown. If you do, head back here and let us know how you got on.

US general: Taliban likely to be long-term threat
BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (AP) ? The United States accepts that a diminished but resilient Taliban is likely to remain a military threat in some parts of Afghanistan long after U.S. troops complete their combat mission next year, the top U.S. military officer said Sunday.
In an Associated Press interview at this air field north of Kabul, Army Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he is cautiously optimistic that the Afghan army will hold its own against the insurgency as Western troops pull back and Afghans assume the lead combat role. He said that by May or June, the Afghans will be in the lead throughout the country.
Asked whether some parts of the country will remain contested by the Taliban, he replied, "Yes, of course there will be."
"And if we were having this conversation 10 years from now, I suspect there would (still) be contested areas because the history of Afghanistan suggests that there will always be contested areas," he said.
He and other U.S. commanders have said that ultimately the Afghans must reach some sort of political accommodation with the insurgents, and that a reconciliation process needs to be led by Afghans, not Americans. Thus the No. 1 priority for the U.S. military in its final months of combat in Afghanistan is to do all that is possible to boost the strength and confidence of Afghan forces.
Shortly after Dempsey arrived in Afghanistan on Saturday, the Taliban demonstrated its ability to strike.
It claimed responsibility for a suicide car bombing that killed five Americans ? three soldiers and two civilians, including Anne Smedinghoff, a foreign service officer and the first American diplomat killed overseas since the terrorist attack Sept. 11 in Benghazi, Libya.
A NATO airstrike Saturday, which came after a joint U.S.-Afghan forced encountered heavy fire from militants during an operation against a Taliban leader, killed 11 Afghan civilians, including 10 children, Afghan officials said.
There are now about 66,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan. That number is to drop to about 32,000 by February 2014, and the combat mission is to end in December 2014. Whether some number ? perhaps 9,000 or 10,000 ? remain into 2015 as military trainers and counterinsurgents is yet to be decided.
Dempsey spent two days talking to senior Afghan officials, including his counterpart, Gen. Sher Mohammad Karimi, as well as top U.S. and allied commanders.
He also visited a U.S. base in the volatile eastern province of Paktika for an update on how U.S. troops are balancing the twin missions of advising Afghan forces and withdrawing tons of U.S. equipment as the war effort winds down.
Paktika is an example of a sector of Afghanistan that is likely to face Taliban resistance for years to come.
Bordering areas of Pakistan that provide haven for the Taliban and its affiliated Haqqani network, Paktika has been among the more important insurgent avenues into the Afghan interior.
While the province has a functioning government, Taliban influence remains significant in less populated areas, as it has since U.S. forces first invaded the country more than 11 years ago.
"There will be contested areas, and it will be the Afghans' choice whether to allow those contested areas to persist, or, when necessary, take action to exert themselves into those contested area," he said.
Dempsey said he is encouraged by the recent development of coordination centers, including one in Paktika, where a wide range of Afghan government agencies work together on security issues. He called it a "quilt" of government structures that links Kabul, the capital, to ordinary Afghans in distant villages.
In some parts of the country, Afghan villagers have shown their dissatisfaction with Taliban influence by taking up arms against the insurgents, even without being pushed by the U.S. or by Kabul. This has happened in recent weeks in the Panjwai district of Kandahar province, a traditional stronghold of the Taliban. The Andar district of Ghazni province has seen a similar uprising.
"We should encourage it, but we shouldn't be seen as hijacking" these local movements, he said.
Dempsey said he discussed the uprisings with Karimi, the army chief, and the Afghan defense minister, Bismullah Khan Mohammadi. They told him they "appreciated that they should allow this to occur (and) they should probably nurture it. They don't necessarily feel at this point as if they should tangibly support it."
The Afghan government's concern, Dempsey said, is that influential warlords could embrace these local movements and eventually leverage them to threaten the armed forces of the central government.
In a separate interview Sunday with al-Hurra, the Arabic-language satellite TV channel funded by the U.S. government, Dempsey was asked whether he worries that Syria, in the midst of a civil war, could become another Afghanistan.
"I do. I have grave concerns that Syria could become an extended conflict" that drags on for many years, he said.

Immigration Plan Will Be Ready This Week, Sen. Chuck Schumer Says
WASHINGTON - As the Senate returns from recess this week, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said he thinks the bi-partisan Gang of Eight will have its immigration plan completed by the end of the week.
"We hope that we can have a bipartisan agreement among the eight of us on comprehensive immigration reform by the end of the week," Schumer said today on CBS' "Face the Nation." "Over the last two weeks, we've made great progress. There have been kerfuffles along the way, but each one of those, thus far, has been settled."
Schumer said that the staffs of each Gang of Eight member has worked 12 hours a day to fine-tune the details of their immigration plan and reach an agreement on every issue.
In an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., also a member of the Gang of Eight, set a longer time frame of a "couple of weeks" before the plan is completed.
But one Republican member of the bi-partisan group has expressed concern that the deal on immigration reform is being reached in haste.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has called for more hearings and time to review the plan in order to encourage "healthy public debate."
"Arriving at a final product will require it to be properly submitted for the American people's consideration, through the other 92 senators from 43 states that weren't part of this initial drafting process," Rubio said in a statement last week. "In order to succeed, this process cannot be rushed or done in secret."
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., disputed the idea that the plan is being rushed, saying on CBS' "Face the Nation," "I reject this notion that something is being railroaded through. This is the beginning of the process, not the end of it."
Graham defended Rubio, even though questions have been raised about whether he will ultimately agree to a bi-partisan plan.
"Marco Rubio has been a game changer in my party," Graham said. "He will be there only if the Democrats will embrace a guest worker program and a merit-based immigration system to replace the broken one and we'll regain our sovereignty by securing our borders and having control of jobs through E-Verify. Marco will be there."

BEIRUT (AP) ? Activists say Syrian government troops are clashing with rebels in a town outside Damascus, part of a belt of communities around the capital that have seen near-daily fighting in recent months.
Rebels have established footholds in neighborhoods on the edge of Damascus and in suburbs to the northeast and south. They hope to use these to storm the center of the city.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says Saturday's fighting is concentrated around the town of Al Otaybah, east of Damascus. The group also says the southeastern Damascus suburb of Jaramana has been hit by several mortar rounds.
There were no immediate reports of casualties.
Damascus is the seat of President Bashar Assad's power, and has been under his troops' control throughout the two-year conflict.

China kills birds as new flu strain death toll hits 6
China announced a sixth death from a new bird flu strain Friday, while authorities halted the sale of live fowl and slaughtered of all poultry at a Shanghai market where the virus was detected in pigeons being sold for meat.
The mass bird killing is the first so far as the Chinese government responds to the H7N9 strain of bird flu, which has sickened 16 people, many critically, along the eastern seaboard in its first known infections of people. The first cases were announced Sunday.
Health officials believe people are contracting the virus through direct contact with infected fowl and say there has been no evidence so far that the virus is spreading easily between people. However, scientists are watching closely to see if the flu poses a substantial risk to public health or could potentially spark a global pandemic.
The Agriculture Ministry confirmed late Thursday that the H7N9 virus had been detected in live pigeons on sale at a produce market in Shanghai. The killing of birds at the Huhuai market in Shanghai started Thursday night after the city's agricultural committee ordered it in a notice also posted on its website.
State media on Friday ran pictures of animal health officials in protective overalls and masks working through the night at the market, taking notes as they stood over piles of poultry carcasses in plastic bags.
The area was guarded by police and cordoned off with plastic tape.
Virus harder to detect than H5N1
Experts urged Chinese health authorities to keep testing healthy birds, saying the H7N9 virus can infect birds without causing disease, making it harder to detect than the H5N1 bird flu virus that is more familiar to Asian countries. H5N1 set off warnings when it began ravaging poultry across Asia in 2003 and has since killed 360 people worldwide, mostly after close contact with infected birds.
"In the past usually you would see chickens dying before any infections occurred in humans, but this time we've seen that many species of poultry actually have no apparent problems, so that makes it difficult because you lose this natural warning sign," said David Hui, an infectious diseases expert at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The city of Shanghai also announced a suspension of the trade of live poultry starting Saturday, said a city government spokesman, Xu Wei, at a news conference.
Pigeon is a common type of poultry in Chinese cuisine and the birds are sold live in markets around the country. The Chinese also raise pigeons as pets, but those tend to be a different type.
Hui said the pigeons were probably infected by wild or migratory birds, whose droppings can carry viruses. He said they were likely not the only species of poultry to be carrying the virus.
No indications of human-to-human transmission
While health officials caution that there are no indications the virus can be transmitted from one person to another, scientists who have studied its genetic sequence said this week that the virus may have recently mutated into a form that spreads more easily to other animals, potentially posing a bigger threat to humans.
The latest death from the virus confirmed by the government Friday was a 64-year-old farmer in the eastern city of Huzhou. Authorities said Thursday the virus also killed a 48-year-old man who transported poultry for a living and a 52-year-old woman, both in Shanghai. Several among the infected are believed to have had direct contact with fowl.
Guidelines issued Wednesday by the national health agency identify butchers, breeders and sellers of poultry, and those in the meat processing industry as at higher risk.
Experts only identified the first cases on Sunday. Some among the 14 confirmed cases fell ill several weeks ago but only now are being classified as having H7N9. Xinhua said six cases have been confirmed in Shanghai, six in Jiangsu, three in Zhejiang and one in Anhui.
