Constructivism and Technology | Mathematics and Education ...

Foundations of Constructivism in Education

Constructivism, on the other hand, is led by the ideas of Jean Piaget and his theories of the four childhood stages of development.? The theories of Constructivism are founded on the belief that ?the child, at first directly assimilating the external environment to his own activity, later, in order to extend this assimilation, forms an increasing number of schemata which are both more mobile and better able to intercoordinate? (Piaget, 1955).? Teachers and educators with the constructivists? perspective believe more in learning by doing.? If a child is able to experiment for himself, the learning will be more profound.? The main argument is that learners actively construct their own knowledge based on their own experiences.?

?Current Trends of Constructivism in Educational Technology

When implementing educational technology, educators and teachers are gearing toward more of a Constructivist approach. Today, there are many supporters of this, especially educators who provide a convincing argument.? There is a switch in focus of attention from the design of educational technology to an interactive problem-based environment in which the student assumes the key.? With this profile in place, the learning task can be tailored to the student?s capabilities rather than the student having to fit in with the educational technology designer?s generalized understanding of how learning should take place.? The creation of these rich learning environments will also have to ensure that texts, reference sources, multimedia and communication facilities are fully integrated.?

Shape your financial future by checking your credit report and scores

(BPT) ? Do you know what?s on your credit report? Do you know your credit scores? If you don?t, you?re not alone, but now is a good time to better understand how they work before you go apply for that loan. By waiting to check your report and scores until you want to buy a car or house, you may discover too late your financial history forces you into strict loan terms with high interest rates, or, worse, disqualify you from getting any loan at all. How can you avoid this situation?

Responsible past credit behavior, a healthy credit score and understanding your debt picture all play crucial roles in achieving your overall financial goals. So reviewing your credit report and knowing your VantageScore credit score and how you compare to others is essential. By reviewing your report, you can verify the information in it, and take actions to correct any item that may require it. If you have any negative marks, now is the time to take action to address those issues and increase your credit score.? ??

Perhaps the biggest misconception about credit scoring is that all the three major credit bureaus ? TransUnion, Equifax and Experian ? produce the same score. Although similar, there are many different scoring formulas, so variations can occur.?

The three major credit bureaus partnered to develop VantageScore credit score to make credit scores more consistent and predictable across all three credit bureaus.

VantageScore credit scores fall within a range of 501 to 990 and include a letter grade from A to F ? . the higher your score, the better. Even though new methods provide more consistent formulas, there may still be variations across the three credit bureaus because information on individual credit reports may differ from bureau to bureau. Furthermore, each company is provided updated information from creditors on different days of the month, so an increase or decrease for one might happen on the first day of the month while another may not occur until the 15th.

These differentiators are why it?s important to know all three of your scores, which you can easily get with a paid TransUnion membership. If you find the scores you have are lower than you?d like, there are some key things you can do. Most credit scores are derived by looking at these five attributes.? By understanding what makes up these five factors, you can begin to change your behavior to improve your credit scores. ?

1. Payment history: A good record of on-time payments will help increase your credit scores. Review your credit reports closely and regularly. Late payments and other negative marks typically remain on your credit reports for up to seven years from the date of first delinquency. If you do find a mistake, take the proper steps to correct it so you can increase your scores.

2. Credit account history: An established credit history makes you a less risky borrower. ?Keeping old accounts that you have paid off can also help because keep your debt-to-credit ratio more favorable. Think twice before closing old accounts before a loan application.

3. Outstanding debt: High balances in relation to your credit limits can lower your credit score. Aim for balances less than 35 percent of your total available credit. You can determine your debt-to-credit ratio by reviewing your credit report now.

4. Recent inquiries: When a lender or business checks your credit in response to an application, it causes a hard inquiry on your report and may result in a slight ding to your credit score, so apply for new credit in moderation. Remember, viewing your own report and score is counted as a soft inquiry and doesn?t change the score one way or another.

5. Types of credit: A healthy credit profile has a balanced mix of credit accounts and loans. It shows you have paid bills in the past and know how to manage different types of credit obligations. By reviewing your current credit reports and learning what your three scores are, you?ll set yourself up for financial success in the future. Visit www.transunion.com for more information.

The PJ Tatler ? Hobby Lobby's Revolution Begins Today

The owners of arts and crafts store Hobby Lobby and Christian retailer Mardel begin the New Year fighting an old fight that, until Barack Obama?s election, was settled in America: the fight for the right to freedom of conscience. The Green family-owned businesses are refusing to comply with the Obama government?s order that they provide abortifacient drugs in their health care coverage for employees. Providing such drugs violates the family?s religious beliefs.

The Green family, along with the Beckett Fund for Religious Liberty that is defending them, petitioned to the Supreme Court in 2012 to block that part of the ObamaCare law. The case went to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who rejected that bid. The Green family announced that they would defy the mandate. Today is the day that that mandate kicks in across the nation.

Hobby Lobby is among scores of businesses, universities and organizations that are fighting the mandate. So far, courts have tended to side with religious institutions against the mandate, but have not granted Christian business owners the freedom to opt out of the mandate. In the Green family?s case, Hobby Lobby is a secular business that retails arts and crafts and hobby supplies, but Mardel sells only Christian books, music and other religious merchandise. A federal court did side with Tyndale House Publishers in November 2012, blocking the Obama Department of Health and Human Services from imposing the abortifacient mandate on the Bible publisher. That decision only applied to Tyndale.

In a few short years, the United States has moved dramatically, from it being controversial for taxpayer funds to be used to pay for abortions of any kind, to a government mandate forcing businesses to provide abortifacient drugs in violation of their religious beliefs.

Hobby Lobby and Mardel now face fines as high as $1.3 million per day as long as they remain in defiance of the mandate.

PFT: Jets keep Ryan but can GM Tannenbaum

DavidDotyGettyGetty Images

The day after the 2012 NFL regular season ended, Judge David Doty convened a hearing on the question of whether the NFLPA should be able to pursue a collusion claim arising from the salary-cap penalties imposed in March on the Cowboys and the Redskins.? The day after the 2012 NFL regular season ended, Judge Doty issued a decision.

In short, the NFL removed a total of $46 million in cap space from the two teams for treating the uncapped year of 2010 as, well, uncapped.? The NFLPA, despite agreeing to the cap penalties in exchange for an agreement by the league to artificially increase the 2012 salary cap to a level north of the 2011 number, claimed that comments made in the aftermath of the announcement of the cap penalties disclosed for the first time that shenanigans were occurring in 2010.

The NFL argued that any potential claim for collusion was barred by the simple fact that the parties agreed in 2011 to end all litigation when finalizing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.? Judge Doty agreed, finding that ?the NFLPA released the claims it attempts to assert in the underlying action.?

As a result, the settlement agreement won?t be reopened, and the NFLPA won?t be able to pursue upwards of $1 billion in damages from the NFL.

While the union may now appeal the outcome, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit has a reputation for being conservative and, thus, pro-business.? Which makes it highly unlikely that Judge Doty?s decision would be overturned.

Indeed, most judges regardless of politics prefer to see settled cases remain settled.? In this case, the NFL and the NFLPA resolved their differences, including any claim that there was collusion in 2010 regarding the uncapped year that, based on the penalties imposed on the Cowboys and Redskins, wasn?t really uncapped.
