New 3D Images Let Doctors See What Causes an Irregular Heartbeat [Medicine]

A healthy heart beats evenly as a metronome, sending oxygen-rich blood to your organs and appendages. But if your ticker's rhythm isn't so even, it can lead to fibrillation—rapid, unsynchronized contraction of the muscles that impedes the delivery of blood around the body. More »

Samsung intros 'world's thinnest' external DVD writer, tries to convince you to pack it with your tablet

Image

Generally, a new optical disk drive is nothing to write home about, but how about one that's specifically purposed for tablets and Ultrabooks? That's the pitch Samsung is selling for its SE-218BB DVD / CD writer, which the company also notes as being the world's thinnest external ODD -- because what better to go with your svelte computing devices than more pluggable doohickeys. Cynicism aside, Samsung says this $60 add-on is just 14mm tall, "18 percent thinner than conventional DVD writers" and eight percent less weighty than its standard DVD ODD. The bus-powered unit connects via USB, and it'll work with Macs, PCs and devices running Android 3.1 and up. Oddly fascinated? The drive is currently on-sale worldwide if you're willing carry it along with you. You'll find full details in the press release after the break.

Usher Makes Fans 'Scream' With New Dance Single

Club track is second release from singer's upcoming Looking for Myself.
By John Mitchell

<P>With nine #1s, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> is easily one of the most reliable hitmakers in the game, and he may have just found his next smash hit. The R&B superstar released his latest single, "Scream," on Thursday (April 26), and it has chart-topper written all over it. </P><P> </P><P>The Max Martin-produced banger finds Usher in familiar territory, singing the virtues of living for the moment &#8212; just as he did on 2010's "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love," which was also helmed by Martin. With a pounding beat and a massive, swelling hook, the song returns Usher to the club after his recent foray into slow-jam territory with <a href="/news/articles/1682000/climax-usher-diplo.jhtml">"Climax,"</a> the Diplo-produced first single from his forthcoming <i>Looking for Myself.</i> </P><P> </P><P>"I see you over there, so hypnotic Thinking 'bout what I do to that body/ I get you like ooh baby baby," Ush sings. "Got no drink in my hand/ But I'm wasted/ Getting drunk off the thought of you naked/ I get you like ooh baby baby." </P><P> </P><P><iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" src="http://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F44406137&show_artwork=true"></iframe> </P><P> </P><P>In addition to his own new album, Usher also recently hit the studio with <a href="/news/articles/1683865/david-guetta-usher.jhtml">David Guetta to record a follow-up</a> to their hugely successful collaboration "Without You." Usher made a surprise appearance during Guetta's set at Coachella on April 14. </P><P> </P><P>"These are really big records that we're working on right now," Guetta told <i>The Hollywood Reporter</i> of his new track with Ush. "It's really crazy." </P><P> </P><P><a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2012/02/16/its-time-for-an-usher-greatest-hits-album/"><big><b>Head to our Newsroom blog to see why it's time for an Usher greatest-hits album.</b></big></a> </P><P> </P><P><a href="/news/articles/1682140/usher-looking-for-myself.jhtml"><i> Looking for Myself </i> is set for release on June 12</a> and is expected to be released in both standard and deluxe editions. The album is Usher's follow-up to his 2010 smash <i>Raymond v. Raymond,</i> which produced the massive singles "OMG" and "There Goes My Baby." </P><P> </P><P>For his new record, Usher returned to work with many of his <i>Raymond</i> collaborators, including Rico Love and Jim Jonsin, as well as Diplo, Martin and Salaam Remi, who is best known for his work with Nas and the late Amy Winehouse. </P><P> </P><P><i>Are you excited about Usher's new album? Scalado Album launches for Android, we go hands-on (video)

Scalado Album launches for Android, we go hands-on (video)

Scalado just released Album, its first ever Android app to land in Google's Play store. The company -- which is best known for imaging technologies such as zero shutter lag, Rewind and Remove -- usually provides software to device manufacturers instead of end users directly. Album is billed as "a simple to use, high performance, photo/video viewer with a clean and smooth user interface" that handles pictures up to 200 (!) megapixels in size. The app costs $0.99 and is available for both smartphones and tablets. It features some interesting touches, like the ability to browse geotagged images using a map view.

We had the opportunity to take Album for a spin before launch and the app offers an intuitive and responsive user experience. Beyond organizing photos into the usual bins -- like the camera roll and the folders on your device -- the main screen lets you browse content by time (monthly) and location (including nearby). You can delete, share, rotate (in place) and crop pictures, plus display the file info and turn images into wallpaper. The grid view uses animated thumbnails for the videos and supports multiple selection. While not groundbreaking, Album is a solid app and the aforementioned map view is definitely worth checking out.

Take a peek at our gallery of screenshots below (from our HTC One X) and hit the break for Scalado's demo video and PR.
